Libson is a delightful city to visit; you can explore the pastel-coloured buildings, enjoy some authentic Portuguese cuisine and learn about the city’s history. If you want to get out of the city and relax, then hire a car because there are some stunning beaches around Lisbon. Whether you want to relax by beautiful blue waters, take part in some surfing, or even just hang out by a beach bar, there’s a beach for everything in Lisbon. We’ve put together a list of the best beaches in Lisbon so you can pre-plan where you’d like to visit.
Portinho da Arrábida
Make sure you pack some hiking boots if you want to visit this beautiful small beach. You’ll have to jump in your car, drive down some pretty narrow roads and walk through parts of Serra da Arrábida National Park, but it’s so worth it. It’s one of the best beaches in Lisbon and boasts glistening blue-green water that is perfect for taking a dip or diving in. Don’t forget to bring your camera and a picnic; this beach is guaranteed to capture your heart.
Praia do Ouro and Praia da California
Venture further into Serra da Arrábida National Park and you’ll come across the small town of Sesimbra, which is home to two beautiful beaches: Praia do Ouro (Beach of Gold) and the Praia da Califórnia (California Beach). They’re fantastic if you want to just sit back and relax and swim in the calm waters. There are places in the town where you can go and eat, especially if you like seafood as this small town has a big reputation for fishing.
Guincho
This beach is a little out of Lisbon’s city centre but it is easily accessible and is the perfect place for windsurfing many even consider it one of the best places for the sport in Europe! If you stay at the beach until sunset then you’ll be rewarded with one of the best beach sunsets in the country, it’s simply stunning.
Tróia
Tróia is best visiting for a Lisbon beach holiday as it is a little way out of the city, so it’s advised to stay here overnight. It’s a wonderful place because it’s been largely untouched and isn’t very built up and can be easily reached by a Ferry from Setúbal. Around the ports and the resort you’re likely to come across quite a few tourists, but if you go searching you’ll find those quieter and more serene spots along the coast. Keep your eyes peeled while you’re relaxing because dolphins are sometimes seen just off shore.
Tamariz
Tamariz is beautiful for a number of reasons: it has a wonderful beach with golden sand and lovely blue sea and on one end of the beach sits a medieval castle that looks proudly over the sand. It’s one of the beaches that are near to Lisbon city centre so you won’t have to worry about travelling very far to get there and back. After you’ve enjoyed your day on the beach, head into Estoril for food and entertainment.
