Day 2 | Recife and OlindaRecife and Olinda City Tour. Highlights: Recife city centre, Praça da República (flanked by the Governor’s Palace, Santa Isabel Theatre and the Law Courts), House of the Giant Dolls, and Casa da Cultura, a fine building dating from the 19th century, originally a prison, it is now a centre for regional culture, with craft stores and local delicacies. In Olinda, we’ll visit Alto da Sé with the churches of Sé and Misericórdia and a breathtaking view of the twin cities. Olinda has been declared a World Natural and Cultural Heritage Monument by UNESCO. |
Day 3 | RecifeCultural Recife. This tour of the culture, art and history of Pernambuco includes visits to the Museum of Northeastern Man, founded by the sociologist Gilberto Freyre; the Instituto Ricardo Brennand, with its impressive collections of art, arms and armour; and the studio of the renowned artist Francisco Brennand. There will be an introduction to Pernambuco’s unique Jewish history, visiting main sites including the Camaragibe Sugar Estate; Ponte Maurício de Nassau, former Jewish St., Sinagoga Kahal Zur Israel and Pontal do Pina. |
Day 4 | Porto de GalinhasCrystal-clear waters of scintillating blue, with coloured fish and many other marine species, plus vast coconut groves make the beach of Porto de Galinhas a striking idyllic symbol of natural beauty, with the prized peacefulness of a genuine fishing village. There are optional jangada (traditional fishing raft) tours through the reef pools (depending on tides) and buggy trips to the beaches of Pontal de Maracaípe and Muro Alto. |
Day 5 | Carneiros BeachOne of the locals’ favorite beaches for water sports, Carneiros has calm, shallow waters ideal for diving, plus broad sands perfect for playing and sunbathing. The dense coconut groves make Carneiros a fine example of a Northeast Brazilian beach, only 90 km south of Recife. |
Day 6 | RecifeMorning free. Transfer to the airport. |
Day 7 | Optional extended stay to visit Fernando de Noronha.The archipelago is a natural site in the World Heritage list and one of the best places in the world for scuba diving. Its waters home various species of fish, rays, sharks, turtles, barracudas, dolphins and others. A sustainable tourism system enables a balanced co-existence between man and nature in this tropical paradise – one of the world’s most important environmental sanctuaries. |
